Truck accident involving camels snarls traffic

7/18/2014

An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a box truck led to traffic delays on July 12. According to reports, the crash took place in Otis on the Massachusetts Turnpike around 6 a.m. The initial investigation indicated that the box truck had been traveling in the westbound lanes of the turnpike when it crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer. However, the factors leading up to and potentially contributing to the truck accident were not clear.

Traffic was stalled after the turnpike’s right lane was closed close to mile marker 23. The tractor-trailer had reportedly been hauling a load of live camels at the time of the crash, but it was not clear if any of the animals were injured. Heavy-duty tow rigs were brought to the scene to help clear the crash and help get traffic moving again.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the driver of the box truck suffered injuries, and ambulances responded to the scene. The extent of the man’s injuries was not known. It was not clear from reports if the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered any injures in the crash.

Sometimes injuries incurred in an accident are not immediately visible, and the adrenaline produced when a crash occurs can dampen signs of stiffness and/or pain. Victims may not be aware that they are injured and need medical treatment for conditions such as whiplash until the next day or so. If this happens, it may be possible for victims to seek monetary compensation for medical expenses of time taken off work by filing suit against any negligent parties.
