Massachusetts man drives dump truck into house

3/7/2014

For most people, their home is a safe haven. It is a place where they can sit down, relax and unwind after a long day at work or school. It is a place where they can ignore what is going on in the world if they so choose. It isn’t usually a place where people worry about being involved in a motor vehicle accident. For one Massachusetts family, a truck crashing into their home isn’t something that they will likely ever forget.

The dump truck accident occurred on the last Thursday in February of 2014, when a Billerica man crashed into a house. The dump truck hit the house with enough force to cause the second-floor porch to fall down on top of it. There were several people at home when the accident occurred. One woman was hit by flying furniture and suffered minor injuries. The woman’s daughter and two other children weren’t injured in the crash.

The dump truck driver allegedly had beer cans in the dump truck. He appeared in court the following day to face a charge of driving under the influence, second offense.

Drinking beer and driving a large dump truck aren’t activities that should be done at the same time. This man’s negligence could have caused injuries much worse than the minor injuries the woman reported. Even though her injuries were reported as minor, she still has the right to seek compensation for damages related to the accident. She should make sure that she understands her rights for compensation prior to making any claims so that she can ensure her interests are protected.
