Dense fog contributing to car accidents in Boston

12/11/2012

The fog is most dangerous around Interstate 495, but low visibility has caused several motor vehicle accidents in the Boston area. At Logan International Airport, visibility went from a quarter mile to five miles in the course of one day. In the course of one hour, two bicyclists were hit by a cars and a collision between two cars took place near Science Park.

The first bicycle collision took place at Longwood and Huntington Avenues around 8:00 a.m. Fortunately, the victim suffered only minor injuries and declined transportation to the hospital. At about the same time, a collision near Science Park involved motor vehicles. Finally, around 9:00 a.m. another bicyclist was struck at the corner of Centre Street and Chestnut Avenue.

The fog was the result of colder ground temperatures and an incursion of warm, moist air. The fog extended over Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard and affected many areas of Boston and the surrounding towns. The fog was expected to continue most of the day. Drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists should be very careful during heavy fog events as visibility is greatly reduced and can lead to terrible accidents.

Regardless of whether foggy conditions prevail, however, drivers are still responsible for avoiding accidents and for the damages they cause if they fail to do so. A personal injury attorney represents the victims of car accidents, pedestrian accidents and bicycle accidents to help them recover damages from drivers who do not slow down for weather conditions and cause a crash with injuries.
