45-year-old man injured in Massachusetts hit-and-run crash

11/21/2012

An Auburn, Massachusetts, car accident left a man seriously injured and another man was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Massachusetts State Police responded to a collision on Interstate 290 at Auburn and found the victim had been ejected from his car.

The victim turned out to be a 45-year-old from Putnam, Connecticut. The victim’s name has not been released but he was said to be in critical condition at a local hospital. The driver was later arrested and charged with drunk driving, speeding and hit-and-run. The suspect is being held in jail on a $5,000 bail pending a hearing.

A person who causes a car accident can often be held liable for damages. However, when the driver is drinking, additional damages might be sought by the victim. The same is true when the driver causes an injury and leaves the scene of the accident. When a driver is both drunk and flees the scene of an accident, he or she is likely subject to several criminal charges as well as the civil liability for the injuries caused by that accident.

A personal injury attorney can review a case such as this and advise the victim or his family on how to seek compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other costs and expenses. Personal injury attorneys attempt to help victims settle claims resulting from car crashes and other types of accidents that cause injury. While every case is unique, victims may need the help of a personal injury lawyer to seek damages due to them.
