Life-saving tradition: Massachusetts holiday police patrols

Massachusetts traditions around major American holidays include get-togethers with family and friends, large meals, presents and, quite often, stepped up police patrols. That’s because traffic increases proportionately on Boston roads, depending upon the significance of a holiday. Traffic always includes a few negligent drivers, but the numbers soar when roads are busy with people focused on festivities. Alcohol is a part of many holiday celebrations. Even drivers, who are careful to monitor alcohol intake before driving during other times of year, may relax personal rules during holidays. The consequences can be disastrous for the drunk driver and for innocent accident Continue Reading

Massachusetts state police remind drivers to stay right

Car accidents are common on Massachusetts’ busy highways, and they can happen in the blink of an eye. Oftentimes, accidents could have been avoided if negligent drivers had been following traffic laws. Speed limits, passing laws and other highway regulations are in effect in order to keep people safe, but they are often ignored. Some people aren’t even aware that they are violating a law until they cause an accident and find out the hard way after being ticketed and held liable in a personal injury lawsuit. One law that is often ignored or misunderstood by drivers is the state’s Continue Reading

Major causes for car accidents

Careless driving is often the reason for many car accidents in Massachusetts and nationwide, but it does not always mean speeding or driving under the influence. Several other factors can contribute tocar accidents that lead to injuries or death. According to a recent report, vehicle operators should be aware of several distracting behaviors that should be avoided while driving. Potential causes of accidents can be anything that draws the drivers’ attention away from the road, such as sleepiness, thirst, hunger or delaying a bathroom break. Hunger and thirst slow down reflexes and the ability to concentrate; however, eating or drinking Continue Reading

Speeding sedan causes deadly motorcycle crash, witness says

Motorcyclists are always vulnerable on Massachusetts roads because their relatively small size makes them hard for other drivers to see them. This also means that when unexpected obstructions pop up on the road, people on motorcycles might have a hard time seeing other vehicles as well. This appears to be the case in a recent motor vehicle accident in Andover, Massachusetts, that claimed the life of a motorcycle rider earlier this month. According to a witness to the crash, a sedan entered I-93 at a high rate of speed and immediately cut across four lanes of traffic. The witness said Continue Reading
