Guardianships & Conservatorships
We are experienced in helping families make informed decisions concerning conservatorship and guardianships for incapacitated adults, elderly and children. A guardianship over a minor allows the guardian to take physical custody of the child, enroll the child in school, and to establish and obtain rights or benefits for the child. We have assisted grandparents, family members, and other loved ones obtain guardianships where parents are either unable to care for children as a result of a medical condition, military service, and or deportation. A guardianship of the estate allows the guardian to have financial control to make decisions regarding the finances of a child or disabled adult (“the ward”). A guardianship of the person allows the guardian to make decisions regarding medical care, support, and benefits to which the ward is entitled. Our team will assist you and your family to make informed decisions, including whether it is necessary to obtain or maintain a guardianship or whether to challenge a proposed or existing guardianship. A conservatorship allows another to manage the finances of individuals who have disabilities which prevent them from making prudent financial decisions.
Interstate matters
We have significant experience in handling the complexities of interstate matters, where the litigants each reside in different states. Do not let the fact that another person and/or your child has left the state infringe on your rights. We can help you establish an order for support or visitation, change an existing order, enforce an order already in effect, establish paternity, and address issues of removal or relocation. If you want to prevent your child from leaving the state with a custodial parent, or you want to take your child out of state, consult with an attorney to ensure that your rights are protected.
